CLASS MONITOR - CLIENT

Augustus Klum is a 50 year old man who taught literature in his early years. After having taught it for several years, he opted for a change in lifestyle and decided to work as a monitor in order to remain in the field of education; which he enjoys. His wife passed on a few years ago. He has two daughters who are married and as a result of this, he now lives alone. He is a soft spoken, fashionable and classy man. His love for the arts reflects in his personality, he admires the small details in things that others fail to see, has a keen eye towards fine art and is open to all forms of music provided they appeal to him. His dogs, duke and duchess are as fond of him as he is of them and they play an important role in his life.

With his qualifications and collection of resources over his lifetime, he has the desire to leave behind a legacy after his passing. He has decided that he would like this desire made possible via an architectural monument in which he may reside and store his collectibles which shall be made open to students in some form of a museum. This ‘museum’ will be accessible to the literature students from the university that he taught in on a daily basis, and he plans to have it running after his passing so that the books may be put to a good use.

The treasures that he would like to preserve include an assortment of books that he has collected over the years, papers written by him, priceless paintings, and his most prized possession, a 1963 Jaguar E-type. He inherited this one of a kind piece from his father and cherishes it dearly. It fills some of the voids in his life that were created as his family gradually disappeared. His collections are still growing, however, very selectively. His collection of oil paintings, portraits of previous generations, are some of the only objects that keep the memories of the past alive. His great grandfather was a gunsmith in his early years, however he has not been able to trace down any of the guns made by him; yet.

He has a great liking for modern architecture but also appreciates classic architecture. Timber as a material appeals to him in all forms. This made a woodland setting the perfect location in which to build his new residence. His recent visit to the Darcons headquarters building in Mexico, made for reasons that are only known to him, saw the development of an appreciation in the power of simple geometric shapes form the composition of a great structure.

Having come to a point in life where he lives alone, he often finds himself some soul searching and likes to reminisce about years gone by, the good and the bad. He has specifically asked for a ‘moment’ in this new building that allows him to echo his thoughts and feelings as he stares into his reflection.
